Network Maintenance @ London

Posted in Service Status by Jon on 20/04/2013 @ 11:31

We have received notification from the upstream of our London DR POP (Note: this will not affect the vast majority of clients who are in our Kent POP) that they have a network maintenance window shedulded for next week, details as follows:

Start Date & Time (BST/GMT +1): Monday, April 22, 2013 10:00 p.m.
End Date & Time (BST/GMT +1): Tuesday, April 23, 2013 2:00 a.m.
Description of Work: Network engineers will upgrade firmware on the redundant transit and peering routers requiring a full reload of each router. Each router will be upgraded separately. Because of the redundant design of the network, doing so will not interrupt the data forwarding for IP services located in all of the London data centres. During each router reload there may be brief periods of latency and packet loss as routes re-converge with IP transit and peering providers. Network engineers will closely monitor the work and will do everything possible to minimize interruptions.
Services Affected: All Internet facing services to clients with IP's starting 37.26.105.x
Impact: Brief periods of interruption and latency during each router reload

Apologies for the short notice, this notification did not come via the standard mechanism and thus went unnoticed for a couple of days.

Update @ 14:19 on 23/04/13 by Jon

Unfortunately this work was not completed fully as anticipated last night, please see excerpt below from our DR upstream:

The maintenance window for tonight was originally intended to include router upgrades at two different locations. Due to unforeseen events only one of the two routers have been upgraded. We will need to schedule the other location for the same time Tuesday (tomorrow) night beginning at 10PM BST. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
