Power interuption at DR POP - Resolved

Posted in Service Status by Jon on 05/07/2014 @ 14:40

We've just brought power back online at our DR POP following on from a brief interruption after something odd happened with our UPS infrastructure, we're looking into the underlying issue and will feedback in due course but service is expected to be stable as we do know what caused the issue just not why as yet.

Update @ 15:07 on 05/07/14 by Jon

It seems today's issue stems from the wrong APC serial cable being used to interface with the UPS.  The UPS in question has a proprietary pin out which if not matched by the relevant serial cable, causes the UPS to instantly shut down - by design.

Frustratingly the physical cable looks absolutely identical to every other APC issued serial cable (and that of any regular serial cable) which is some what frustrating but definitely a lesson that we won't be wanting to learn again!

An email will shortly be sent out to the affected clients detailing exactly what went wrong, why and how we will ensure the issue does not reoccur.
